Home to noted tourist attraction West Edmonton Mall, which occupies the neighborhood’s entire southern half, Summerlea is bounded on the east by 170 Street, on the west by 178 Street, on the north by 95 Avenue and south by 87 Avenue. Obviously, it has great access to any commercial amenities available at West Edmonton Mall and they are plentiful. From grocery shopping to any retail need, West Edmonton Mall provides ample parking for almost any activity, minutes away from home.

Summerlea residents also enjoy excellent transit access, as there is an ETS hub at the mall. The good proximity to Whitemud Drive makes for easy east/west commuting along the south side and 170 street provides easy access to the many businesses that run along it to the north of Summerlea.

Development began in 1970s, but has over the years been substantially affected by the growth of West Edmonton Mall. The residential portion of the neighborhood today is quite small, consisting of mostly low-rise apartments with a mix of single-detached, semi-detached, and row-houses as well.

Summerlea is very ethnically diverse neighborhood with a sizeable Arab community. Its name refers to a summer meadow.
