Stony Plain is a town located west of Edmonton , directly adjacent and west of the city of Spruce Grove. Stony Plain is considered part of the Edmonton Capital Region and is a part of Parkland County. The town currently has a population of 17,189 residents as of the 2016 census.
The current town of Stony Plain began in 1906 with the arrival of the railway and by 1908 had a population of 1000 residents already. The town to this day has maintained many of her original historical buildings and takes great care to preserve them. You can see many of these buildings including the Stony Plain Hotel as you explore the attractive townsite and particularly the area of Main Street. A murals program was also began in 1989 to tell the story of the past of the community and there are now 27 murals throughout , bringing in many visitors each year. The murals have given Stony Plain the nickname “The Town with the Painted Past”.
Stony Plain has much to offer its residents including its Pioneer Museum, the Multicultural Heritage Centre, three major parks, a skate park, a BMX park and a green pathway system that runs through the town. The average home price within the community is an affordable $369,000 and the town offers a mixture of both older and newer homes.
