Spruce Grove is a small city located 11 km west of Edmonton and is Alberta’s ninth largest city with a 2016 population of 33,640 residents. The town of Stony Plain is located directly adjacent and west of Spruce Grove and the area is surrounded by Parkland County. Spruce Grove is included as part of the Edmonton Capital Region.
Spruce Grove began as a village back in 1907 but dissolved in August 1916. The community did not become an official village again until January 1, 1955 and was eventually upgraded to town status in 1971 and finally a city on March 1, 1986. The city offers a diverse range of housing availability including condos and going all the way up to multi million dollar homes. The area is especially attractive to families who are looking for the convenience of city life and proximity to Edmonton but want a slower pace. The average home price in Spruce Grove is approximately $397,006.
Spruce Grove has much to offer its residents including the Horizon Stage Performing Arts Centre, a local theatre and the TransAlta Leisure Centre – a recreation facility that it shares with Stony Plain and surrounding Parkland County. There are also numerous walking trails and children’s playgrounds and parks throughout.
