Ramsay Heights is defined on the east by Whitemud and Terwillegar Drives, while the North Saskatchewan River forms a natural boundary to the west. The southern boundary of the neighbourhood is 40th Avenue, while its northern boundary is 51st Avenue.
Ramsay Heights, an older residential neighbourhood on the south side of Edmonton, began as part of the original Riverbend/Terwillegar Heights development plan of 1961. Construction began in the 1970’s and progressed steadily through the 1980’s, reaching completion by the end of that decade.
More than half of the houses in this quiet neighbourhood are detached single-family homes. Roughly another third are low-rise condominium-style apartments, with the rest composed of duplexes and row houses. About 70 percent of Ramsay Heights’ homes are occupied by their owners. Ramsay Heights’ location along Whitemud Drive offers easy east-west commuting. The neighbourhood also benefits from its proximity to Riverbend Square and its services and amenities. The bicycling paths and hiking trails of the scenic River Valley are easily accessible at the community’s west end.
