Kilkenny was named after a town in Ireland and is part of the Irish-named area of Edmonton that includes adjacent neighborhoods Kildare and Killarney, as well as Londonderry Mall. Bounded on the west by 82 Street, on the east by 66 Street, on the north by 153 Avenue, and on the south by 144 Avenue, Kilkenny has fantastic access to education. The neighborhood contains three elementary schools, one junior high school and one composite high school.

Kilkenny also provides access to the Londonderry Fitness and Leisure Centre, which offer resident families of the area many recreational opportunities. This is just one of the numerous factors that make the Kilkenny a great choice for families, and the neighborhood does indeed have a higher than average number of under-20 residents. Kilkenny is an established community with 60% of its population having lived there for at least a few years in a mix of single-units, low rises and row houses.

Nearby Londonderry Mall means access to commercial amenities and 97 Street provides easy north/south commuting to the downtown core. G. Edmund Kelly Spray Park offers families a place to cool off during the hot Edmonton summers.
