Formerly dominated by the Heritage Mall site, Ermineskin is now defined by the high-rise residential developments and very large park that replaced it. The redevelopment of Heritage Mall shifted the appearance of the neighborhood considerably and now almost one-third of the buildings in the area are low-rises and fewer than 20% are single-detached homes. There are of course, still some row houses and semi-detached homes, but overall Ermineskin is made up of an older population with more than 20% of residents over the age of 60. With this recent construction of apartments in the Heritage Mall area the percentage of households with only one resident has significantly risen to almost 40% in 2006.

Erminskin offers residents, primarily renters, great transit connections with convenient access to Century Park LRT station. This allows the downtown core and University campus area to be only minutes away with public transportation.

The neighborhood is bounded on the west by 111 Street, on the south by 23 Avenue, and on the east by Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard. The northern boundary is a utility corridor located just to the north of 29 Avenue. Ermineskin was named after Chief Ermineskin, a Cree chief who settled his tribe in the Hobbema area in the mid-1800s.
