Downtown Edmonton

LIVE IN CENTRAL EDMONTON

Downtown is the central neighborhood of the city  of Edmonton. The community is bounded on the north by 105 Avenue, to the west by 110 Street, and to the south by the North Saskatchewan River Valley .  The residential portions of downtown include a variety of housing structures with condominiums, both new and old, making up the majority. The other housing options within the core include several townhome and duplex buildings as well as a small number of single family homes – many of them being historical in nature.

Downtown has been continually undergoing  redevelopment since about 1970 and this continues today with the recent addition of Edmonton’s Rogers Place Arena – home of the Edmonton Oilers.   Edmonton City Hall is also located here as is the  Art Gallery of Alberta, the  Citadel Theatre, the Shaw Conference Center and the Stanley A. Milner Library, Edmonton Public Library’s main branch. The downtown also contains multiple access points to the city’s LRT system , making it the most public transportation friendly area within Edmonton.

Edmonton City Centre  is the major shopping area of Downtown and is an indoor shopping mall with over 170 services. It is anchored by The Bay, CBC, Winners and Empire Theatres. It has four office towers and a Delta Hotel. Formerly two malls and now one, a brand new pedway was built to connect the two malls in the early 90’s and the extensive pedway system makes this a great location to shop during the long winter months. Parks and green spaces are also varied throughout the downtown core and include children’s playgrounds and the beautiful landscape surrounding Edmonton’s Alberta Legislature Building.
