Charity Highlight- Cystic Fibrosis Canada

Giving and volunteering is important to us, as is supporting charity, it is a key motivator behind what we do. Each month we will be highlighting a charitable nonprofit to get behind and support and this week we are putting the spotlight on the incredible work being done at Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada has a dream of a world with no disease – specifically that of cystic fibrosis, commonly called simply CF. According to the Cystic Fibrosis Canada website, the disease is defined as the following:

“Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. At present, there is no cure. CF causes various effects on the body, but mainly affects the digestive system and lungs. The degree of CF severity differs from person to person, however, the persistence and ongoing infection in the lungs, with destruction of lungs and loss of lung function, will eventually lead to death in the majority of people with CF.”  It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.

The Mission of CF Canada

To end cystic fibrosis (CF). We will help all people living with CF by funding targeted world-class research, supporting and advocating for high-quality individualized CF care and raising and allocating funds for these purposes.

For ways in which you can get involved in the fight to cure this horrible childhood illness, please visit their volunteer opportunities page or like and follow them on their Edmonton chapter Facebook page.
